Niente Dan “Terminator” Cates ma c’è Phil Ivey e spunta anche un certo Phil Hellmuth che, vincendo, non solo potrebbe conquistare l’ennesimo bracelet Wsop ma centrare il colpo che lo consacrerebbe definitivamente come leggenda del poker mondiale. Intanto abbiamo perso il nostro Dario Sammartino che era cortissimo, fanalino di coda di un field tecnicissimo e agguerritissimo.
Tuttavia al comando c’è un certo James Obst dopo sei livelli di grande qualità. Ovviamente stiamo parlando del Day 3 delle World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players Championship.
Obst, che si è preso del tempo lontano dal poker per intraprendere una carriera nel tennis ma è tornato con grande forza alle World Serie, porterà 2.972.000 chips al Day 3, guidando gli ultimi 32 giocatori rimasti in gioco a fine serata.
Subito dietro Obst c'è Daniel Alaei, che è entrato all'inizio del Day 2 e ha accumulato 2.064.000 chips, mentre Phil Ivey si è aggiudicato il terzo stack più grande da 1.655.000, e il chip leader del Day 1 Josh Arieh si trova poco dietro di loro al sesto posto con 1.365.000 chips.
La late registration ha generato altre 26 entries col montepremi finale per 99 players che si è attestato a quota $ 4.727.250. A premio andranno in 15 per almeno $ 84.255, con il vincitore che riceverà $ 1.324.747, un braccialetto d'oro WSOP e il premio più prestigioso di tutti i giochi mixed, il Chip Reese Memorial.
Come detto Cates c’ha lasciato nonostante la reazione avuta dopo aver subito un duro colpo da Obst alla fine del livello 10. A metà del livello finale della giornata Alaei ha chiuso un colpo nel Limit 2-7 Triple Draw eliminandolo definitivamente.
Tra gli altri che sono stati eliminati durante la giornata c'erano Daniel Zack e Shaun Deeb, ex giocatore dell'anno Wsop. La prima incursione dell'Hall of Famer Chris Moneymaker nel Ppc si è conclusa il Day 2, così come la collega HoF, Jen Harman.
Abbiamo perso anche Brian Yoon, Anthony Zinno, David "ODB" Baker e Julien Martini.
Phil Hellmuth si è qualificato bene anche perché è riuscito a imbustare nonostante fosse entrato all’invio del livello 9 e dopo aver subito pericolose oscillazioni di stack.
Tra gli ex campioni Ppc c’è Matthew Ashton a quota 1.068.000. Per quest’ultimo uno stack dal valore incommensurabile visto che si è trovato a dover subire due colpaccio da Ivey al Day1. Ma eccolo qua e nel late stage può spaventare tutti. Poi c’è Elior Sion (934.000), insieme al campione del Main Event WSOP 2021 Koray Aldemir che era short stack ed è riuscito ad imbustare 645.000 gettoni.
